Description

An Address to the People of Great Britain on the property of abstaining from West India sugar and rum by William Fox; is a pamphlet that was published in late 1792 by an abolitionist. The pamphlet circulated throughout America and Great Britain, with more than two hundred thousand copies printed (Whelan). This address focused on the boycott of the West Indian produce. It's clear that during this period, many were horrified by the power of the slave trade: "In vain have such scenes been developed. The wealth derived from the horrid trade, has created an influence that secures its continuance, unless that people at large shall refuse to receive the produce of robbery and murder" (pg.3). The picture I provided is the cover page of the address. I chose this page because it was the most evident page that a reader understands. Even with the information provided, it's a little fuzzy because of the condition of the book as well. Also, a lot of the S's were F's in the reading, making it a little difficult to understand. The abolitionist William Fox wanted to give solutions on ending the slave trade and give his readers an opportunity to change this horrible trade.
